Bill is a managing member of Lake Ice U.S.A. Bill is a product of the Midwest where hegrew up on a small country farm in Northeast Ohio. He began his fishing career as a youngsterusing sassafras tree sticks and short cotton line, with a stick bobber and worm hook andeventually a cane pole and using red worms and night crawlers for bait. Lakes and canalswere with-in walking distance and pan fish and channel catfish plentiful. When farm chores and school weren't taking up his time he continued to venture out to the many lakes that Ohio offered and perfected his fishing techniques. Bill joined the U.S. Navy where he served 21 months ofhis four year tour in Vietnam aboard ships and mostly serving with the Naval MobileConstruction Battalion ELEVEN (Seabees). After leaving the Navy, starting a job career in Californiaand graduating from Cerritos Junior College and then University of Redlands with a B.S. degreein Business Administration he became involved in trying his hand at ocean angling and deep seafishing through 1970 to 1990’s. He enjoyed backpacking into the California Eastern Sierra Mountainswhere he took up fly fishing the many streams and mountain lakes for various species of trout inthe early 1970’s and 1980’s. Bill obtained valuable fly-tying skills and custom rod buildingtechniques from the Long Beach Fly Casting Club. Bill believes that ice-fishing the RockyMountain lakes offer a great recreational opportunity for everyone from “grumpy old men” toyoungsters and family’s looking for a fun filled day on the ice. He is especially fond of helpingbeginners learn surefire techniques for landing the “big” one. Bill founded the Lake Ice U.S.A. involvement with the“Wounded Warrior Transition Unit” at Fort Carson Colorado to take soldiers fishing throughoutthe year at no expense. As a service disabled veteran himself, it ishis way of giving back to those that have given.
